A Journey through My Nurseplus Apprenticeship: Gemma Peadon, Nurseplus Training Lead

At Nurseplus, we support all our staff with access to further learning which includes apprenticeships. For National Apprenticeship Week, we reached out to a member of staff who is currently undertaking a Nurseplus apprenticeship.

Gemma Peadon is one of our Regional Training Leads who is currently responsible for care staff training and development in the western area of our network. Gemma works closely with all our healthcare trainers to make sure they have access to the best support so they can train and guide our care professionals to deliver our excellent standards of care.

We had a chat with Gemma to find out how things are going, and asked her to share her thoughts on the apprenticeship process so far. Here's what she had to say.

Embarking on my Level 5 Coaching Professional Apprenticeship with Nurseplus and our training partner Paragon Skills in October 2023 marked the beginning of a transformative period in my career within the healthcare industry. The invaluable coaching skills I have acquired have already made a positive impact, particularly in the realm of effective team leadership and management.

As a Regional Training Lead at Nurseplus, my role involves guiding and mentoring healthcare trainers, fostering their professional development, and ensuring alignment with organisational goals. This experience has not only refined my leadership skills but has also contributed to elevating the overall quality of training programs within my team.

What really sets Nurseplus apprenticeships apart is their unwavering commitment to creating a supportive and enriching learning environment. Throughout the apprenticeship, I have received extensive support for my professional development, including various mentorship opportunities. The organisation's emphasis on hands-on experience and practical learning has allowed me to gain real-world skills directly applicable to my role.

Crucially, Nurseplus stands out for its culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing. This collaborative approach provides ample opportunities for apprentices to learn from one another and contribute to each other's growth. Teamwork is actively encouraged, with apprentices being given opportunities to collaborate on projects and initiatives.

I've had the privilege of participating in diverse projects and leading meetings, where I could apply newly acquired communication and negotiation skills. Nurseplus has played a pivotal role in shaping my career trajectory as a coach and leader in the healthcare industry. Nurseplus and Paragon's commitment to providing a positive learning environment has been instrumental in my professional growth. The coaching skills, knowledge, and experiences gained during my apprenticeship so far have really set a foundation for my continued development.

Nurseplus’ unique approach to apprenticeships is not just about acquiring theoretical knowledge but there's also a strong focus on practical application and real-world scenarios. The support provided, both through mentorship and collaborative projects, has been crucial to my success in this journey.

To those considering an apprenticeship with Nurseplus, particularly in coaching or any other field they offer, my advice is simple – seize the opportunity! Take advantage of every chance for learning and growth, actively seek mentorship from experienced professionals, and engage in collaborative projects. By being proactive and fully engaged, Nurselus can help you maximise your learning experience and position yourself for further success in your career. Nurseplus isn't just a place for apprenticeships; it's a nurturing ground for excellence in the healthcare industry.

We understand the importance of giving our people the chance to succeed in the career they love. Whether that's in healthcare training like Gemma, leadership and management, or working on developing a wider range of healthcare skills for our care staff, we want enrolling in apprenticeships to be easy for everyone who works with us to learn, grow, and shine in their care careers.
