National Apprenticeship Week: Insights from Our Dedicated Apprentice Sasi

My name is Sasi, I’m 20 and I am enrolled in Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship.

My day-to-day role consists of contacting potential candidates for healthcare roles and helping to pre-screen and send them through to compliance. I also help to post and monitor job advertisements for our company on our website, Totaljobs, CV-Library, and Indeed.

I did not feel that university was the right step for me, I have always had a strong work ethic and knew I wanted to have a career in Business Administration, once I saw the recruitment advertisement on the government website and read what Nurseplus was about, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me and my future.

I have gained communication skills and learned about many different ways I can use software to enhance my work. I understand a lot more about the recruitment world and the information that can help to determine a successful hire. My manager gave me time to learn all the different aspects of the job and I received support from all of my colleagues and my line manager so I could understand and work at the same time. All of my co-workers have been happy to help and made me feel comfortable when asking for advice on aspects I may not be familiar with.

Having off-the-job-hours has allowed me to schedule my apprenticeship activities and make sure I am within guidelines spending at least 20% of my time on the apprenticeship work/studies. Being in Nurseplus has allowed me to fit these hours to suit my style of work which has allowed me to have a lot more freedom outside of my 9-5 schedule. I can enjoy my time outside work without worrying about any deadlines or feeling like I need to complete apprenticeship tasks quickly, earning a wage also encourages me to work hard and makes me feel like I am accomplishing a lot in my day-to-day.

My apprenticeship with Nurseplus has taught me many important skills used by different recruitment agencies. I now feel confident communicating with people who are in a position of wanting to find a new job. I can see myself progressing in Nurseplus and in the recruitment sector, using the skills, knowledge, and behaviours I’ve learned in my apprenticeship to expand the possibilities.

When I complete this apprenticeship, I can see myself becoming a recruitment administrator or looking to pursue a consultancy role. I have become a lot more of a confident person and I can navigate complex calls and situations better to ensure the candidates feel heard and helped in any way they need, communication.

I would highly recommend an apprenticeship at Nurseplus as it has given me the time, patience, and knowledge to grow in this space and industry. The best parts of my apprenticeship have been the culture around my office allowing for a collaborative and safe space for me to express myself and work hard. I believe that everything I have learned and experienced over these last few months will aid in my career progression in Nurseplus and in other businesses as well.

We'd like to thank Sasi for spending the time to talk with us during National Apprenticeship Week and hope that by reading of her experiences, you might consider an apprenticeship to further your own careers in care or in care recruitment.
