National Apprenticeship Week: Insights from Our Dedicated Apprentice Paris
Hi, my name is Paris, I’m 20 years old and I am completing the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Within my role at Nurseplus, I help out in nearly every department across the business with any admin work or long-term projects they have for me to complete. I'm also responsible for several business email inboxes and respond or diver any emails to the correct recipient.
I always knew university was never something I wanted to do when I left sixth form as there wasn’t anything I wanted to continue studying for the next few years. I worked in a restaurant during, and after, sixth form and it helped to teach me how to be very independent, but I didn’t feel like I was geting anything else out of it.
I always knew I wanted to get a qualification while continuing to earn my own money, so once I saw Nurseplus advertising this apprenticeship on the government website, I applied instantly and have zero regrets. Working within the office side of a care company has really opened up my eyes to how it all really works and shows me what it takes for a care company to be successful.
Key skills I have developed during my apprenticeship include communication skills, organisation skills, and time management. I've also been able to expand my knowledge with Microsoft software such as Excel and Outlook, as I have never had to use these before.
The training provided by Nurseplus has been a huge inspiration to my personal growth and has allowed my confidence to flourish as I am constantly getting praised by my co-workers, specifically my manager, who has been an amazing contribution to my success, she always supported me with my tasks and projects.
The apprenticeship being a 9-5 job allows me to balance my work with my personal life extremely well. I have the evenings to myself to be able to go out with my family or friends, and weekends allow me to rest before going back to work on Monday. Earning a wage while learning has helped my lifestyle and stability. I love knowing I will be financially stable to pay for the necessities I need, all the while being taught about the company I work for and learning a lot of life lessons that will help with my future job roles.
My apprenticeship has given me a lot of preparation for my future at Nurseplus because of all the admin skills I have learned and will use no matter what my job role develops into. I’d love to see myself being the first point of call for anyone in the business for any help they need. I want my knowledge to develop within every department I help, so I can eventually assist with anything anyone comes to me for. With the skills and knowledge, I have gained, I can see myself being a step closer to becoming an executive assistant when I have completed and passed my apprenticeship.
As mentioned earlier, my self-confidence has skyrocketed during the apprenticeship experience. I regularly receive praise from everyone I work with and am consistently reassured that what I am doing is perfect, and my ideas are always taken into consideration by managers and the executive team. Even with all these positives, there have been challenges, like there are in any job. At the beginning of my apprenticeship, my manager left the business a few months in, so I had to learn to adapt to a different situation and the way my new/current manager works.
My advice for anyone considering doing an apprenticeship with Nurseplus is, absolutely go for it. You get an amazing qualification at the end of it to be able to go and do any relevant job you desire, allowing you to go further up the career ladder. If I was to be asked about the best part of my apprenticeship it would be when I got offered a full-time job when it’s finished.
Overall, my apprenticeship journey has been a huge success. It has supported my career development and given me a full-time job after it has finished, keeping me stable on the career ladder. My next steps, when the apprenticeship has finished, is to continue to develop my skills and knowledge in Nurseplus, to constantly learn about the business, and to continue getting to know my colleagues and how they work, so I can support a smooth running business in the future.
